Who the heck is the-dreamer? ... click for short biographical babble ...

Another nomination!
'The Awakening of a Magus' has been nominated at The Sorting Hat fanfiction award site http://partial-eclipse.net/sortinghat in the Super-Harry category.
Nominations just opened and run until Sep 10. Reading and voting are scheduled for Sep 18 - Oct 2.

Thanks to the person who nominated my story!

I encourage everyone to go over there to read and vote. I won't just outright ask for your votes (though I would love them!). I guess I have a bit of 'honorable Gryffindor' and want to deserve the votes, not just get them blindly. *sigh*

This really helps to give me the incentive to get a fresh Magus chapter up before voting starts ... hope I can!

Where the heck is the-dreamer?

Real life (including too much unpaid overtime) has drained my energy and inspiration.

Just for the record, I do not intend to abandon either story. If the time ever comes when I decide to give up, I'll officially say so here, in my Yahoo group, and in my ffnet profile. For now, I haven't given up.

Thanks to everyone who kept reading, and to all of you with the patience not to badly nag me for an update. I appreciate it. More will come soon. I just posted RotS chapter 7 recently, and Magus will probably be next.

Later!

Presenting the long awaited (by me) ...
Magus Fan Art
by the talented jade-magic (deviantart) aka Mali Caren (ffnet)
(I'm now editing her story " The Missing Boy" - recent chapters done; still working on earlier chaps)
Her overall gallery is at http://jade-magic.deviantart.com. I'll be copying the Magus pictures here as well, but I like all her work. My personal favorite so far is "Led by the Spirits", a hilarious depiction of Harry and Luna after celebrating Harry's 21st with a few ... well, more than a few drinks. :-)

As of 28-Aug-06, there is one Magus pic.
-Titled "The Awakening of a Magus", I personally subtitle it "Communing with the Elements". It depicts the time (Chapter 41) that Harry was on the roof of Hogwarts during a storm, soaking up the sensations, only to discover he was floating high above the castle.
-I hear the next will be the scene where Harry saves the Dursleys from the falling tree (Chapter 1).

I'm a Potter-head!

Who the heck is the-dreamer?
(updated 28-Aug-06)
I'm a middle-aged (read 'over 50') mother (24 year old daughter who's worked as an independent pro wrestler and manager, Mall Cop ... among other jobs), and step-grandmother of 2 (by way of the younger of 2 stepsons) and step-step-great-grandmother of 2 (by way of the older stepson, who married a grandma) and widow. I work as a database administrator at a university (I've abandoned my home business making websites and t-shirts), am a bit overweight with a heart problem and diabetes, and I read HP fanfics, fantasy, sci-fi, and Regency/paranormal romance voraciously). Lately, I've been saving money by concentrating on HP fanfics ... plenty to choose from. I have over 100 HP fanfics in the 'check every few days' section of my spreadsheet (links to last chapter read plus notes on story so I don't forget which one I'm reading), plus another 50-70 that haven't updated in over 2 months (less than a year) but I haven't quite given up on. That would be the pot calling the cauldron black. :-)

And maybe I'm -meant- to write ... I found out when I was 49 that I have an older brother I didn't know about (shades of Unsolved Mysteries, but ... don't ask), and he's a published writer ... 3 books ... working on a movie deal, (straight fiction, though, not fantasy, though he does have a wonderfully weird sense of humor).

I didn't find Harry Potter right away when it came out, but was completely hooked once I found it. Even at my age, I daydream a lot with other writers' fantasy characters in the plot line (I guess to compensate for dealing with computers too much). I had run out of new books to read, I had seen Chamber of Secrets on the second weekend, and since I was getting impatient waiting for Order of the Phoenix, and my daughter has done fanfics elsewhere, I thought I'd look for a Potter fanfic site and see if I could write something for once. I hadn't really done any creative writing since -way-back- in high school. The reviews have been a great ego-boost to a burned-out computer techie.
Thanks all!

I'm a nitpicker (I should be an editor maybe ^o^ ), so if anyone finds mispellings ... oops ... misspellings or inconsistencies or anything seriously non-canon, go ahead and email me. Just be kind to an 'old lady'. I've re-posted the entire Magus story several times for minor non-plot fixes (like Hogwart's fixed to Hogwarts, or Dobby's way of speaking) and I've had to do a rework twice when a reviewer caught a bug in the plot. Once Magus is complete, I plan to try to transplant the original elements into an original universe and see if I can get it published. (Hey, look again at my pen-name!) I've given up on doing beta work; I have trouble finding the time these days, and I seem to scare most of them off after they see all the highlighting in the edited version I send them. (Thanks, Rachel, for sticking with me for your whole story.)

Oh, a piece of silly trivia: My late husband's birthday was the same as Harry's ... July 31. He gave me a dirty look when I told him ^_^ (he was -not- into Harry Potter ... he liked Westerns ... sigh). But it seems I'm destined to be associated with Harry.

I own an Alivan's 'magic' wand, Ebony, 15 inches, Essence of Phoenix Talon.
Oh, and I do believe in magic ... it's just -that- far out of my reach when I'm awake.
That's why I call myself ... the-dreamer.

In closing:
Veni, vidi, velcro ... I came, I saw, I stuck around ! (author unknown)
