I wanted to give credit
to a Harry Potter website I found that has been a very helpful reference
for Official Canon information and timelines, "The Harry Potter
Lexicon" at http://www.hp-lexicon.org
Chapter 4
Dumbledore's chewing out of the Dursleys triggered by a comment in reviews by Rachel A. Prongs. Thanks Rach!
"I shouldn't have said that." I couldn't resist 'stealing' the line repeatedly used by the film-Hagrid.
Chapter 5 fix
It was rightly noticed by kateydidnt that Minerva wouldn't have used Voldemort's name, but 'You-know-who' when she was muttering to herself waiting for the return of Dumbledore and the Magus. So I fixed it and reposted the chapter when chapter 29 was posted.
Chapter 9
Tammy Tattler's maniacal giggle inspired by Moon-Bunny's review.
Chapter 13
Harry's animagus forms: The reason that Harry's second form for Fudge is a butterfly is Ron's line in the Forbidden Forest in the Chamber of Secrets movie (David305 checked the book and it isn't in there.) - Why spiders? Why couldn't it be 'Follow the butterflies'?
Chapter 14
Molly Weasley's 'gift' for preparing for unexpected guests is based on my late mother-in-law. I never met her, but my husband wasn't the only member of the family who has told about Maudie. The family lived literally on the top of a Kentucky mountain. No one in the family had a phone up there until about 15 years ago, so back in the 50s there was no communication up there whatsoever ... no mundane communication. They'd ask her, 'Ma, why are you making up so much food?', and she'd say 'So-and-so is going to drop in later.' And sure enough, so-and-so would make an unplanned visit, and there was plenty to go around. Honest! Here's to you, Maudie ... I wish I'd known you.
Chapter 19
Mr. Mike Storm, Rachel's teacher at Tae Kwon Do school. This is really the name of the teacher/owner of the TKD school my daughter and I attended for a couple years some years back. Not that he's likely to read this, but he's a great teacher and person.
Amelia Crafter. The Crafter name I swiped from a lesser known (out of print) collaborative series by Christopher Stasheff (and other great authors.) He's one of my favorite authors.
Rachel Dragonrider (Ryder) - You know who you are, Rach. Go us! (Rachel is another fanfiction.net author I proofread for.)
Chapter 19 fix
I had originally referred to the three days of the full moon, using a convention I had remembered from other stories. However, I just bought replacement copies of some of my Harry Potter books. Since 'Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them' has a werewolf entry saying that 'once a month' a werewolf is afflicted, I will follow JKRs interpretation and go with the exact night of the full moon.
Chapter 20 fix
I realized I had referred to the Slytherin entrance as a portrait. I don't believe Slytherin uses a portrait, so I changed the reference to 'Slytherin entrance' (fixed after chapter 28).
Chapter 22
Wormtail as Draco's first contact - Well, Lone Wolf's speculations changed the original plan of a throwaway character for this Death Eater, to the 'Most Wanted Rat', who will be captured in the near future. He's Seer-of-the-Week again; his version of the future won out over my original one.
Chapter 24
Slainte (slahn-tcheh) A drinking toast; Cheers! [Gaelic: health]. Also, the name of an Irish/Celtic band from Washington State, USA that I found on mp3.com . They're -very- good, I think.
Chapter 26
On Rachel & Amelia - Some of Rachel Dragonrider includes things I've learned about the writer Rachel. Some of the dialogue and mannerisms are based on my daughter, Sarah ... don't blame Rach for all of it :-). And I confess, Amelia Crafter is my Yahoo name ... but no, I'm not MarySue-ing ... Sarah and I never made it past Orange Belt (level 3 of 10) and I didn't do well in Chemistry at all back in college. Just a few details about us are going into the OCs (original characters).
-------------------- added Chapter 32
Chapter 32
The phrase Voldemort uses, "never-to-be-sufficiently-damned Magus" is in tribute to E. E. "Doc" Smith, who wrote the Lensman series ages ago. The phrase used multiple times in his books was "never-to-be-sufficiently-damned Lensman", uttered by the 'bad guys', of course. I've loved that line for most of my sci-fi/fantasy-loving life.
-------------------- added Chapter 35 posting
Chapter 33
The chapter title, 'Death to Death Eaters' is 'stolen' from Erik aka Just Being Me. He used that as his ffnet name in the past.
Chapter 26 Fix
In the 'Americans' scene,
Rachel complained she couldn't help with Order business, though she admitted
she wasn't supposed to know about it. I realized that Amelia was incapable
of telling Rachel about the Order because of the Sodalis (it stopped
Wormtail). So I removed reference to the Order from the scene.
Chapter 33 Fix
I did a bit of rewrite
on this chapter, not to change what happened but in response to some reviewers
... it seemed some sections weren't as clear as I hoped, such as the staff
meeting and prophecy. Hopefully it's an improvement.
Chapter 34 Fix
David305 and WolfMoon caught typos again ... thanks guys !
Also, I did a slight rewording on the scene immediately after Draco is almost killed ... looks like it had a slash-y image that I wasn't intending. (Sorry, Black Rose ... I know you've been wanting that.)
